We have gathered together some of our favourite local spots, which we can wholeheartedly recommend. The Roseland has so many wonderful beaches, walks and places to eat & drink that it has been difficult to narrow down the list! You won’t be short of things to do on your stay with us.
Food & Drink
Hidden Hut
This renowned beach café founded by Simon Stallard - serves amazing fresh & seasonal food from an outdoor beach kitchen, just at the bottom of our lane on Porthcurnick Beach. During the day there is no booking, just turn up and enjoy lunches like seafood chowder, freshly baked Cornish pasties and artisan cakes. Everything is packed in compostable packaging, so you can eat at their long communal tables or take a picnic onto the beach. Their famous ‘Feast Nights’ throughout the summer months are incredible and tickets are in high demand. Find out more here.

Curgurrell Farm Shop
Fresh seafood including local lobsters, plus lots of other fresh produce and handy ready meals. We recommend calling the day before to order fresh seafood – they can be contacted on 01872 580 243 or taffinders@gmail.com. The shop is at the end of our lane. curgurrellfarmshop.co.uk

Tide & Thyme
Barista coffee, pastries & cake by day, stonebaked pizzas by night. This spot down on the harbour in Portscatho is perfect for a post-sea-swim coffee, or pizza & wine on the harbour wall overlooking the sea on a summers evening!

The Standard Inn
This local village pub was given a new lease of life when Simon Stallard & Jemma Glass of the Hidden Hut took it on in summer 2022. With it’s gorgeously curated antique interiors & cosy decor, to local real ales and wood-fired kitchen & grill - it’s not one to be missed! In the summer months, the vibrant beer garden with it’s outdoor kitchen is the place to be. Also, the best spot on the Roseland for a Sunday Roast.

The Driftwood Hotel
We are so lucky to have the Driftwood Hotel opposite us. Paul & Fiona Robinson’s critically acclaimed restaurant serves some of the best food in the West Country in a beautiful setting. Light lunches on the terrace are also available. driftwoodhotel.co.uk

Plume Of Feathers
A charming village pub in the heart of Portscatho, just a stones-throw from the water’s edge. Enjoy local ales and a seasonal food menu. You can also catch the local Sea Shanty singers here regularly, for a real Cornish experience! For menus and reservations, head to their site here.

Scathos Gelato
Newly opened in Summer ‘23 by the team behind The Plume of Feathers, this ice cream shop in Portscatho square is a real hit amongst locals and holiday makers alike. They make all of their Cornish gelato from scratch, in house. Perfect for grabbing an ice cream and taking a stroll down to the beach.

Beaches
Now we might be biased, but we think the Roseland has some of the best beaches in the country! Here are our favourites…
Carne & Pendower Beach: A huge sandy beach – visit at low tide when the beach joins neighbouring Pendower beach to form a mile-long expanse of sand. The beach is owned by the National Trust so parking is free for members or pay & display otherwise. The Nare Hotel sits on top of the cliff overlooking the beach and is a good place to stop for a crab sandwich! nationaltrust.org.uk/carne-and-pendower

Porthcurnick Beach: Our local beach is a lovely sandy spot, between Higher Rosevine Farm and Portscatho. Turn right out of the farm, walk down the lane until you reach the sand. visitcornwall.com/beaches/beach-cafe/south-coast/roseland/porthcurnick-beach
Distance: 5-8min walk
Towan Beach: Towan is a beautiful beach of small pebbles and sand. There are fantastic rockpools and if you’re lucky you might see seals. Another National Trust beach, the car park is located about 5mins walk across a field. Distance: 10min drive or a 1hr walk along the South West coast path
St. Anthony Head: Secluded beaches at the foot of the headland. The lighthouse is a local landmark and it’s a great place to spot seals. The car park is a bit of a walk from the beach and the cliff-top path has no barrier at the edge, so keep an eye on children. nationaltrust.org.uk/st-anthony-head
